Aubrey had an Easter Egg hunt for the 3rd day in a row. I decided to sneak a peak at some of the goodies while she was enjoying her fruit roll-up. A mom came up behind me and said “are you eating your child’s candy?” I lied through my teeth and said “only the hard candy”! :) Oops!
French Braid Monday! Today I decided to French Braid my hair and Aubrey’s. Her hair is getting so long that it’s always in her eyes. She isn’t crazy about me messing with it but she let me braid it today.
We think Andrew might have the flu so trying to stay out of his way while he gets better and keeping our fingers crossed that we don’t get anything.
Meanwhile, today is deep clean the house day since next week we are headed on a 1 week vacation to Arkansas! Yeah! Andrew and I will celebrate 5 years marriage and the only place we wanted to go was back to where it all started. We are staying in our Honeymoon Cabin. So excited! We’ll be there 3 days without Aubrey so we can enjoy cooking, relaxing, hiking and just being together. It’s so easy to feel disconnected with the day to day tasks and obligations. Every couple needs those get-a-aways to reconnect. The rest of the trip we plan to spend with family and friends! Can’t wait to see everyone!
Aubrey and I have been busy the last week! I know that I say this all the time but I cannot imagine not spending this time with her. The memories I have of the last 3 months (since quitting my job) are amazing. I’m really enjoying just being her mom!
This week has been pretty busy so wanted to do a quick summary. I finished 6 days straight of working out each day. It feels amazing!!!! I usually have at least 1 day in there that something comes up and I just don’t make it to the gym.
Saturday: 8:15 am Spin class followed by weights. This was the class I had to line up 8:00 am and fight everyone for a bike. Fun times! Andrew and Aubrey joined me after spin class at the gym and it was a family affair. We enjoyed the rest of the day together!
Sunday: While dressing for church, Andrew had what we think was a gallbladder attack. It came fast and went away not too long afterwards. He went to the doctor and is getting an ultrasound so waiting to find out for sure. Swimming was 3,000 yards on this day.
Monday: Spin on my own for 30 minutes and abs/cardio on own afterwards.
Tuesday: Spin with my fav instructor followed by weights later that night. Yes, you read that right (my 1st 2-a-day since college).
Wednesday: Kickbox Cardio and I can barely move. Seriously was not expecting to be that sore for this class. I love when I try new things and they work!
Thursday: Spin for 30 minutes (fav instructor was out sick and replaced with old bald man with crappy music…which is why I left out early)… weights for the rest of the 30 minutes.
Tomorrow will either be rest or Yoga… I haven’t decided. I could use a good stretch for sure!
It was a fabulous week outside so Aubrey and I were at the park or hanging out enjoying the beautiful day most of the week… despite the warnings about all the coyotes in the area… yes you read that right. I never thought that I would have to be on the lookout for coyotes at my house but apparently they are hanging out just down the street so Aubrey and I don’t go out past around 6pm for the time being.
After my near death experience with my Spin Class, we had a very interesting day… (and by interesting I mean not good!). My daughter managed to scratch her eye while riding in her carseat on the way home from the gym. Sudden screams coming from the backseat caused me to pull over on the side of the road. After a few minutes she calmed down so I thought we were all good…. I was wrong! This continued until around 4pm this afternoon from 10am. She scratched the cornea of her eye which is obviously very painful. It took about 3 crying episodes for me to figure out it was her eye. Seriously! She would not even let me touch her. She cried herself to sleep around noon and I lay there for an hour watching her sleep. She awoke screaming so I decided it was time to call the doctor. I couldn’t find anything in her eye and after so many tears you would think everything would have washed out. The earliest I could get in was 4:15pm so we went through hours of playful Aubrey and then straight to a crying fit. It was exhausting! The doctor told me to try to get her to sleep but that wasn’t working so I just carried her around in my arms until she calmed down. Then she was back to playing for another 15 minutes before we started the cycle over. Note to self… make sure to clip her fingernails daily! I seriously just clipped them the other day… how do they grow so fast???? We are all good now and her eye is healing just fine. Of course things were a lot better by the time the doctor actually saw us at 5:30pm… (yes you read that correct… appointment at 4:15pm… actual doctor came in at 5:30). Another note to self… find a new pediatrician.
Ever have one of those instructors that just push you so hard that you think that you are about to blackout or have your heart explode? I have found the best (and by best I mean hardest) spin instructor! She in awesome but at the same time makes me want to throw up everything I ate in the last 2 days. Her workouts are fast paced, mostly standing and extremely hard. She’s so good that people arrive 15 to 30 minutes early for her classes to reserve bikes. On Saturdays, they stand outside the gym until the doors open so they can rush to get their water bottle on a bike to reserve it. I went to 2 of her classes this week. I’m going to try to commit to at least 2 of her classes each week in hopes of sweating my backside off before summer!
I had an hour and fifteen minutes to swim and get dressed before meeting Andrew. 1,000 yards into it I decided 4,000 yards was going to be my goal. I’ll admit that I had to throw on some fins at the end of the workout to get all the yardage in and save my shoulder; however it was still a great workout for me considering what kind of swimming shape I’m currently in. I realize for swimmers out there that 4,000 yards is nothing… my yardage was around 14,000 yards a day during swim season in college. It still felt good to push past the 2500 to 3000 range that I usually fall in. Who knows?? Maybe by summer I can get closer to 6,000 yards a workout!
**Note: If you want a smaller tush and really great legs, buy a pair of fins and do kick sets. Great leg, butt and even ab workout! Leg muscle definition… yes please!
President’s Day! We are not use to these 3 day weekends around here. Loving that we have an extra day off as a family. Cutest picture ever!
Anyone that knows me very well can tell you how I feel about unwanted parenting advice (especially from strangers). If I’m unsure about something, I ask my family, friends or especially my pediatrician. I’m always happy to answer any questions but I make a special effort not to push my parenting style onto someone else. I do tell my story/experience but try really hard to follow up with “but that’s Aubrey and every child is different”. Unwanted advice is not as bad from friends/family and people close to you that have young kids; however nothing bothers me more than a distant relative, stranger or someone without experience with kids that think they know what is best for you and your child. I spend almost 24 hours a day with this child so I’m pretty sure I know what works and doesn’t work. I can relate to this article so well. I wonder if people are as forth coming with advice when it’s your second child??
